Indonesia Fashion Forward (IFF) brought eight Indonesian labels—Baha Gia, Fuguku, Kami, Nadjani, Jenna & Kaia, HijabChic, Aleza, and Hameeda—to debut at COTERIE, New York. These brands did more than showcase their collections; they redefined the intersection of tradition and contemporary design, offering a new narrative on Indonesian fashion.

These contemporary and premium ready-to-wear labels aren’t just following trends—they’re setting them. Centered on storytelling, craftsmanship, and sustainability, these collections offer a fresh perspective on the global fashion scene, establishing Indonesia as a rising fashion capital.

Fashion Meets Art: A Sensory Activation

The debut of these labels at COTERIE was enhanced by an immersive art installation by renowned Indonesian artist Mulyana, also known as MangMoel. Supported by D Galerie, Jakarta, the installation featured his signature crochet techniques, inspired by underwater ecosystems. His intricate, tactile work transformed the IFF Lounge into an artistic extension of Indonesia’s vibrant creative culture, offering attendees an experience that fused visual art with the ethos of fashion.

Sustainability as Common Ground

At the heart of both the fashion and the art on display was a commitment to sustainability. Indonesian designers are embracing slow fashion, mindful sourcing, and environmentally conscious production practices, proving that high fashion and sustainability can coexist. These collections represent not just garments but a broader philosophy of responsible luxury—one that values craftsmanship, tradition, and the environment.

MangMoel’s installation echoed these values, rooted in his practice of repurposing materials. His work highlights the possibility of creating beauty while minimizing waste, offering a deeper narrative that aligns with the designers’ own dedication to sustainable fashion.

Looking Ahead

Indonesia’s presence at COTERIE wasn’t just an introduction—it was a statement. As these labels make their mark internationally, they are proving that fashion built on heritage, sustainability, and innovation can resonate on a global scale. By blending artistry with sustainability, Indonesia Fashion Forward’s debut at COTERIE showed that fashion is no longer just about aesthetics—it’s about purpose, responsibility, and creating a vision for a better future.
